چکیده

Mobile data networks are important parts of global communications. The network protocol deployed in the mobile network is typically based on a wireline network protocol, which is either a connection-oriented network protocol or connectionless network protocol. In this paper, we show that neither of these protocols ts well for a dynamic mobile network. Instead, we argue that by enabling the network protocol to be adaptive based on the local area mobility situation, the network is able to possess both exibility of a connectionless network protocol and QoS provisioning capability of a connection-oriented network protocol. As the result, the network can deliver high quality and robust communications under a wide range of mobility extent. The preliminary framework, referred to as the Adaptive Network Protocol (ANP), is designed to achieve this goal. New concepts and ideas are explored to form the core of the new framework. With packet level performance analysis, we verify that ANP outperforms both xed connection-oriented and connectionless network protocol under a wide range of network mobility situations theoretically. Therefore, we believe ANP provides a conceptual objective for future network protocol designs in dynamic mobile networks and heterogeneous networking.

Improving Quality of Service Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using OLSR

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are constructed by mobile nodes without access point. Since MANET has certain constraints, including power shortages, an unstable wireless environment and node mobility, more power-efficient and reliable routing protocols are needed. The OLSR protocol is an optimization of the classical link state algorithm. OLSR introduces an interesting concept, the multipoint r...

Secure Routing Protocol: Affection on MANETs Performance

In mobile ad hoc networks, the absence ofinfrastructure and the consequent absence of authorizationfacilities impede the usual practice of establishing a practicalcriterion to distinguishing nodes as trusted and distrusted.Since all nodes in the MANETs would be used as router inmulti-hop applications, secure routing protocols have vital rulein the security of the network. So evaluating the perf...

Demonstrating Active Network Adaptability in Wireless Networks

The IP-based Internet, although wildly successful, is limited in its ability to evolve and adapt, in particular at the network layer. For example, after almost a decade, IP multicast is still not widely available, although applications that might take advantage of its functionality are popular. Mobile/wireless networking is an important emerging area in which adaptivity and evolvability is like...

Mobility Management Based on Mobile IP in Mixed IPv4/IPv6 Networks

The current network is evolving gradually from IPv4 to IPv6 network in order to acquire sufficient IP addresses and guarantee the QoS. However, the current mobile IP protocol is supported only when the MN moves within networks of the same IP version because the mobile IPv4 protocol is not compatible with mobile IPv6 protocol. Therefore, we propose an efficient method for the mobility support in...

Energy Efficient Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks by Using Honey Bee Mating Optimization

Mobile Ad hoc networks (MANETs) are composed of mobile stations communicating through wireless links, without any fixed backbone support. In these networks, limited power energy supply, and frequent topology changes caused by node mobility, makes their routing a challenging problem. TORA is one of the routing protocols that successfully copes with the nodes’ mobility side effects, but it do...
